lv women’s bag classic Louis Vuitton Rose Des Vents

Aesthetics

I had never seen Louis Vuitton like this before my first interaction with LV Rose Des Vents. At first glance, it’s sleek, structured, functional (various internal dividers and pockets), and conspicuously free of large LV logos. While some say it bears a striking resemblance to Celine 16 or Hermes Kelly, look a little deeper and you’ll see that Rose Des Vents is not the same either. Leather looks tough and structured, but has a soft and easy-to-handle texture. With a top handle and crossbody strap, it can be worn in multiple ways for added functionality. I appreciate that it’s not overly branded in LV, but rather appears as a somewhat anonymous handbag.

In my opinion, the orange (with LV, amaretto) colorway on top is the most interesting, and there are several colors to choose from (black, cream, persimmon, and amaretto) which give the bag an edge. Admittedly, I dare not buy such a bright color. (This was actually my first!) But over the past few months, I’ve realized that pops of color (especially for those whose wardrobes are mostly neutral) are an easy way to elevate an outfit. Despite its potential for color transfer, I found the cream version to be absolutely stunning as well. I would steer clear of black and gray as there are other bags that look similar.

All in all, the juxtaposition of grained and smooth calfskin allows for a seamless transition from day to night. A gold-tone LV padlock and calfskin key bell make this a functional yet sophisticated bag, both for special occasions and for everyday use.

Available + Function

One of the most attractive elements of the bag is its functionality. Although the website describes the style as an “everyday bag,” I’m only going to use the bag (and its color) for special occasions. But over the past four months, I’ve found that my bags outshine everyone else, including my Prada Medium Galleria and Chanel Flap.

Rose Des Vents come in MM and PM (I have PM) packaging and are one of the easiest bags I’ve ever dealt with. Getting in and out is easy despite the latch and top handle. The lower half is lined with supple calfskin leather for a roomy fit (water bottle included!). There is one large divider inside, a small pocket on the inside of the divider, other small pockets and zippers on either side of the divider to keep everything organized.

On a daily basis, I wear the messenger bag most often, as it can become tricky to hold strictly on the top handle when trying to reach for things. Unfortunately, the crossbody strap is also on the longer side. Although there is a way to change the size by a few inches, I would like more room to make it longer (or in my case shorter).

Quality + Construction

You can expect the same quality and construction from this bag as any other Louis Vuitton bag. The leather is thick and durable, and the top handle flap, while smooth, is lightly coated to protect it from scratches and scuffs. Given that I’ve used the bag more than I expected, I’m worried it’s starting to show, especially around the top flap. So far, so good – for now. While it will inevitably start to wear and tear, I’ve been able to carry it over my shoulder, in my car, and around my apartment without major damage. However, with any handbag, I try to avoid direct scratches as I know it will definitely leave marks. Since the bottom of the bag is soft calfskin, I found it getting a little bit slanted. Normally, I stuff all my bags when not in use, but this particular bag needed to pack a little extra. I’m concerned about flattening the shape after emptying, so be extra careful when storing.

Overall Evaluation

For me (and maybe for many of you), this bag is fun. It is unique; It has the color of the brand signature type; It’s underrated compared to other LV bags. Even if there were more than 47 orange Louis Vuitton Rose Des Vents around the world, I would still buy it because it has an everlasting meaning that reminds me of my trip to Paris with my mother. Looking at it objectively, this is a stunning bag, but given the uncertain shape of its staying power, it’s definitely overrated. I love that I have a handbag in a fun color right now, but looking ahead, I think it will fall within the realm of classics because I know I’ll always get something back.
